- Isiah Thomas on Dennis Rodman: ‘I’ve Never Seen Anything Like It’
"I've never seen anyone scientifically analyze rebounding the way Dennis Rodman did. During our first few games together, as usual, we'd line up behind each other and warm up with layups. Suddenly, he would just stop and stand under the basket.
After layups, we moved on to mid-range shots, and every time we did, he would again just stand under the hoop. I asked him, ‘What are you doing, man? Get in line.’ He replied, ‘Leave me be, I’m counting.’
After a while, I got frustrated and asked him again what he was doing. He said, ‘I’m counting… I’m counting the ball’s rotation. When you shoot, your ball rotates three times… When Joe Dumars shoots, his ball sometimes rotates four times.’
That man was tracking the spin of the ball for every player. He knew exactly how long each shot would stay in the air and how it would bounce off the rim. I had never seen anything like it in my life. The guy was a genius… A pure basketball genius."

The opponent is still looking for orientation where to pass the ball. He will have taken his eyes off the game to make his tackle or interception and he will have expended energy. Both make him vulnerable.” – Jurgen Klopp
Counter-pressing (Gegenpressing in German) is the tactic where teams engage in intensive high press in order to regain the ball immediately after losing it. Recent rise in counter-pressing can be explained by the increasing use of data, where teams can identify opposition's passing patterns and press accordingly, another reason is the fact that players are getting fitter and can run further with more intensity. It can be defined as pressing the ball in transition from offence to defence, it allows teams to skip the defensive organisation phase entirely, when successful. First objective of counter-pressing is stopping opposition’s counter-attack. Second objective, is to win the ball as high as possible (thereby shortening the distance to the goal) and increase the chances of scoring from the counter-attack.
"MASTERS OF CHAOS": Complete guide to understanding and coaching football in transitions. Transitions are the key moments of the game; teams must be well prepared to capitalise on the chaotic situations transitions create (both when attacking and defending). It is an aggressive and proactive style of play, which requires top mental, physical, and tactical readiness. Ralf Rangnick contributed a lot to the rise of the aforementioned style, influencing a generation of elite coaches like Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann, Jesse Marsch and many more. E-manual includes tactical theory and 40 tactical practices (used by elite teams) to coach vertical directness, counter-pressing (gegenpressing), high pressing, modern counter-attacking, mental speed and tactical intelligence/adaptability.
