• Netball Australia to take new approach to athlete wellbeing

Netball Australia has completed a comprehensive review, conducted by the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), to assess, explore and evolve the area of athlete wellbeing in netball.

As part of the review, a series of thorough focus groups were conducted consisting of current elite players, recently-retired elite players, high performance system representatives (coaches, managers and staff), athlete parents and partners, state-based organisations and Suncorp Super Netball clubs.

The review found that netball is a pioneer in athlete wellbeing and engagement, having driven positive change within the sport’s stakeholders over an extended period, but that an opportunity exists for an enhanced holistic and collaborative approach to all aspects of wellbeing – mental, physical and emotional wellbeing.

NEW YORK, NY, USA -- The blistering run into the elite of women’s tennis continues unabated for Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu, as the No.15 seed reached her first Grand Slam final at the US Open on Thursday night with a gritty 7-6(3), 7-5 victory over No.13 seed Belinda Bencic of Switzerland.

"I've always dreamt of this moment ever since I was a little kid," Andreescu said, in her post-match press conference. "But I don't think many people would have actually thought that it would become a reality."

"I just kept believing in myself," Andreescu continued. "But I think that moment after the match [point won], I was just in shock. At the same time, I fought really hard to get to this point, so I really think I deserve to be in the finals on Saturday."

Andreescu never held a break point in the first set, but won it in a tiebreak after saving all six break points against her, including one set point. The Canadian then fought back from a double-break down in the second set to reel off the last five games of the clash and claim victory after two hours and 12 minutes of play.

19-year-old Andreescu moves into the final on her US Open main-draw debut -- last year at this time, she was ranked outside the Top 200 and fell in the first round of qualifying in New York City. The rising star becomes the second Canadian to reach a Grand Slam final, following Eugenie Bouchard's run to the Wimbledon final in 2014.

  • Netherlands beat Germany in six-goal thriller

Nicol: Imagine how good Dutch would be with 'proper' No. 9 (1:56)
    ESPN

A late goal from substitute Donyell Malen handed Netherlands a massive 4-2 win over Germany in their Group C 2020 Euro qualifier in Hamburg on Friday.

The Germans set out in search of their second win in a row against Netherlands following a last-gasp 3-2 win in the first group meeting between the teams in March and were in front inside of 10 minutes.

Some poor defending gifted Serge Gnabry a close-range goal from a Lukas Klostermann rebound after the RB Leipzig player had got in behind the Dutch defence on a counter-attack.

Netherlands had the better of the first-half possesion, but Germany looked more likely to score with Jasper Cillessen making a fine save on a Marco Reus shot just before half-time to keep the score 1-0 at the break.

"I told my players [at half-time] to stay in the game, not to give them so much space, control the ball better," Koeman told reporters. "That we should just keep going and we would get our chances. In the second half the Germans looked more tired and we benefited from that.

"Overall we worked harder than Germany for this victory."
