• Hank Haney's racist and sexist comments were unsurprising in the world of golf
    Anya Alvarez
Women’s golf is full of brilliant athletes from a huge variety of backgrounds. It can be tough to find out more about their stories though

Michelle Wie was dismissive of Hank Haney’s comments this week

On Wednesday, I sat in a room with media executives working on a pitch for a series about the LPGA. We discussed multiple storylines that ranged across racial and social borders. Stories about South Korean, African American, Latina and white players. Stories about players who grew up in poverty but made it on tour; women who were born into privilege but are using their privilege for good. The LPGA is more diverse than many would have you believe: more than 25 countries are represented on tour this year. Last year, women from 10 different countries won tournaments. • Lance Armstrong should keep his mouth shut if he is serious about redemption
    Richard Williams

Sport often welcomes back a bad boy turned good but some offences lie so far beyond the pale a return is almost impossible despite protestations

Lance Armstrong on the road to redemption when taking part in the La Ruta de Los Conquistadores in Costa Rica in November.

Steve Smith and David Warner were booed during Australia’s warm-up fixtures against West Indies and England in Southampton. The Aussies won both matches, and Smith got runs in both, so perhaps they won’t care about a phenomenon that seems likely to continue throughout the World Cup, even if they get to the final on 14 July. • Dazzling performance for Van Dijk. He also chose his golden favorite: "He's the best in the world"
Tottenham - Liverpool 0-2. Virgil van Dijk made his bid to win the Golden Balloon after his performance this season withLiverpool. The 27-year-old defender has not been dribbled by any opponent in the last 64 official matches in all competitions.

Van Dijk: Lionel Messi deserves the "Golden Balloon"
Even if he is on the list of those who will fight to win the Golden Bull, Van Dijk made a great statement to Lionel Messi, the one he took out of the UCL trophy race in the semifinals.
"I think Lionel Messi is the best player in the world. He should win the Golden Bubble. I'm not thinking about the trophy. But if I win, I get it with pleasure.
However, Messi is the one who should win it. It's the best in the world, whether it's in the final or not, "Van Dijk said at the end of the Tottenham match.
Lionel Messi scored 12 goals in this Champions League. It was not enough for Barcelona to catch the final of the competition, the Catalans being dramatically eliminated by Liverpool.
